What it is, in ten seconds

Dump the cards. Go to bed.

A media asset manager is the library between the cards and the edit. This one lives on your machine.

  1. 01Offload the cards
Copy the cards through DISKO and every file is checksum-verified on the way in. The library fills in while the copy is still running.
  2. 02It works the night shift
On your machine, DISKO watches every clip and writes down what happens, reads the words on screen, transcribes every line with speaker labels, and finds anyone you've named across every drive.
  3. 03Ask for what you want
"the bride crying", "the sign that says Pine Creek", "everything Sarah says about budget". The moment comes up, not just the file. Send the selects to Premiere Pro or Resolve as a timeline.
The libraryThe DISKO library: every clip described, tagged and searchable, on your own machine.

DISKO Vision

It doesn’t look at a thumbnail. It watches the whole clip.

DISKO Vision watches every clip from start to finish and writes down what happens, moment by moment, with the time each moment starts. It knows the people you’ve named and the products you’ve taught it, so you read “Elena and Marcus load the truck,” not “two people.” Search lands on the moment, not the top of a twenty-minute file.

  • Moment by moment, with the time each one starts
  • Knows the people you’ve named and the products you’ve taught it
  • All on your machine
Describe the shotDISKO search: "skateboarding on the coast at sunset", best matches first, each with its score.

Faces & voices

Name someone once. It finds them everywhere.

It finds the faces in your library and lines them up, unnamed. Name one person and DISKO finds them across every drive and every year, then asks “Is this Frankie?” with a whole grid of faces you confirm in one click. Speaker ID picks out who’s talking and matches each voice to a face.

  • “Who is this?” groups every unnamed face from every year, each with its clip and project
  • A whole grid of faces, confirmed in one click
  • No GPU rental. It does the dirty work while you cut
How it works

Transcription

Transcribe entire shoots. Search every word ever said.

Not a clip - the whole shoot. Run speaker ID on key clips and your transcript reads like a script. Search across every word spoken in your entire library, or export SRT for searching or editing anywhere.

  • Speaker labels on every line
  • SRT subtitles
  • Search in more than 50 languages
Dialog searchDISKO dialog search: every spoken match for "funny people", with timecodes.

Assistant Editor

The boring part, done in one click.

Choose the jobs nobody wants to do: sync the cameras and sound, trim the dead air and false starts, string out the footage, pull the takes, write the transcript. DISKO does them all and hands over one Premiere Pro or Resolve project. Want a jumpstart? Add a first assembly from your brief, written out as a screenplay, for ideas to react to. The story and every creative call stay yours. It runs on the AI you pick, with your own key: only transcripts and descriptions go to it, never your footage.

  • It trims only what it’s sure of; the rest become markers, and you can overrule every trim
  • A first assembly in four styles, from a project, a client or your whole library
  • Your key for Claude, ChatGPT or Gemini: no credits, no markup, no new subscription
How it works

Into the edit

One export. The edit starts organized.

Choose your takes or every clip, and DISKO writes one file for Premiere Pro: bins by capture date and camera, your selects as subclips, color labels and favorites carried over, stringouts of what you picked, and the synced multi-cam timeline. DaVinci Resolve opens the same file. Nothing is copied on disk; every clip points at your footage.

  • Bins by capture date and camera
  • Selects, color labels and favorites come along
  • The synced multi-cam timeline rides along

The short list

And that’s the short list.

Every one of these ships in the build you can download right now.

01

One bar, every signal

Faces, dialogue, what happens, the words on screen, your tags, filenames and the look of the shot, all at once. Type “andy bananas mountain” and the right moment floats up.

02

Review Mode

Every clip on a big stage, with an Up next queue beside it. Press T for a take or 1 to 5 to rate it, and the next clip is already up.

03

Roles, labels, ratings

Mark clips Interview, B-roll or Aerial, or name your own roles. Add color labels and star ratings. A whole bin takes a role or a color in one click.

04

Your folders, kept

However you organize your drives, your folder tree becomes nested bins. Card folders like DCIM fold into a bin named after the camera.

05

Hand off a project

Export a project as one .disko file, with or without its footage. It opens on another Mac with every tag, face, transcript and select in place.

06

Camera LUTs

DISKO spots the camera and its log profile and puts the right LUT on while you browse. Bring your own or use the bundled ones. No more flat, grey log.

07

New cut? Review link.

Render a cut from Premiere or Resolve and DISKO asks if you want it up for review. One click uploads it, and the link comes back right in the app. With DISKO Cloud Pro.

08

Multi-cam sync

Every camera and recorder lined up by sound and timecode, even when the camera clocks are wrong, then handed to Premiere or Resolve as a ready-to-cut timeline.

09

Native pro playback

10-bit HEVC, ProRes, DNxHD, MXF - plays natively with real-time LUT preview. No transcoding to scrub.

10

The map

Every clip on a map, drone shots included: DISKO reads the GPS that DJI and GoPro tuck inside the file. Search by town or country, even offline.

11

Teach it anything

Draw a box, name it, hit retrain - DISKO learns your products, props and gear from a handful of frames. Accuracy is measured on your own labels.

12

Duplicate detection

Finds near-duplicates across drives by what the frames look like, with tiered confidence. Reclaim terabytes without the guesswork.

13

Projects in shoot order

Projects date themselves from the footage, not the day you imported it. Sort a client’s projects by date or name, or drag them into your own order, and DISKO Cloud’s Clients page follows it. Double-click to rename.

14

Photos and videos apart

Photos and Videos get their own rows, and the choice stays on while you browse and search, so a video search never fills up with stills. A type: filter works in search too.

15

Find footage first

Before any AI is asked, DISKO’s own search shortlists the clips for your brief, on your computer: interviews, aerials, b-roll, places, people and photos, each with a reason you can check.

Your footage is none of our business

We don't look. Ever.

We live in a data-harvesting hellscape. DISKO isn't part of it. Your footage, the words in it, the faces in it and everything you search for stay on your machine. We never see them: not to train an AI, not to sell an ad, not "to improve the product." For your security, your peace of mind and your freedom. Nothing uploads unless you send it.

On your machine

Everything: your footage, its transcripts, the faces, the tags and every search. It all runs right here.

On DISKO Cloud - only if you use it

Cloud is our review suite: review links, client portals and showcases. Cloud sync is off until you turn it on. Then only the projects and files you pick go up - review copies, plus their tags and transcripts so reviewers can search them - and only when you click Sync. Nothing you didn't choose. Ever.

What does talk to us: signing in and checking your license, update checks, downloading DISKO's AI models, and four anonymous counts (a trial starting or ending, the purchase screen showing, the buy page opening) so we know the store works. Anything else that goes online is your call: Google Drive libraries, online place search, and the Assistant Editor, which sends the transcripts and descriptions of the footage it works with to the AI service you pick, with your own key. The footage itself never leaves your machine, and its footage search runs entirely on it.

Who makes DISKO

Your disk, organized.

DISKO started in 2015, when Dom was working at Snapchat and kept running into the problem every media team has: hard drives everywhere, full of photos, video and illustration from every kind of vendor, each organized its own way. None of it searchable.

Unsearchable, difficult to find media buried in the graveyard of the digital world.

From the original 2015 prototype pitch

The plan was to plug in a drive and let software catalog it, without shipping everything to the cloud. Anyone in professional media knows why: syncing takes forever, servers cost a fortune, and in the age of 8K a drive is still the fastest way to move big files.

We're Smith Robinson. We make documentaries and brand films, and DISKO is the tool we wanted on our own shoots - built by creative people for creative people, whether you post to TikTok or deliver to a network.

Straight talk

The questions everyone asks first.

Short answers. No fine print.

What is DISKO?

DISKO is a media asset manager (MAM) for people who shoot and cut video - documentary and commercial editors and producers, production companies and brands with their own products, wedding and event filmmakers, YouTube teams. It runs on your own machine (a Mac, or Windows in beta), organizes whole drives of footage, watches every clip and writes down what happens in it, reads the text on screen, transcribes every word with speaker labels, finds a person everywhere once you name them, and lets you search all of it in plain language, in more than 50 languages. The optional DISKO Cloud adds review links, client portals and delivery for the moment you want to share.

Does DISKO upload my footage?

Nothing uploads unless you send it. All the AI — tagging, transcription, faces, shot descriptions, reading the text on screen — runs on your own machine, and footage only goes to DISKO Cloud when you choose to sync a project for review or delivery. The honest exceptions: the Assistant Editor’s first assembly sends the transcripts and descriptions of the footage it works with, never the footage, to the AI provider you pick (with your own API key), location names you type are geocoded online, and a bug report sends its logs.

What does DISKO cost?

The desktop app is a one-time purchase — $99 during founders pricing ($149 after launch) — with free updates for your whole major version (future major versions are paid upgrades) and no subscription required, after a 7-day free trial. DISKO Cloud has a free tier (2 GB, review links, plus free screenwriting and shot-list tools) and a Pro plan at $12/month for founders ($15 after launch) that adds desktop sync and 100 GB.

What cameras and formats does it work with?

Anything you would actually shoot with: drones, mirrorless, cinema cameras, phones, action cams and stills. Playback is native for ProRes, DNxHD, MXF, 10-bit HEVC and everything else FFmpeg can decode, with real-time LUT preview that auto-detects log profiles from Sony, Panasonic, Canon, ARRI, DJI and GoPro, among others.

Does it replace Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve?

No — it feeds them. DISKO organizes, searches, reviews and multicam-syncs; then one export sends your bins, takes, color labels, selects, first assemblies and synced timelines as XML straight into Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve, so the edit starts with the footage already found.

How is DISKO different from Premiere Pro’s own search?

Premiere Pro’s Media Intelligence search also runs on your machine, but it searches only the media inside the project you have open. DISKO searches every project and every drive you have added, by what was said, what happens, what is written on screen and who is in it, then sends the bins, selects and synced timeline into Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve.

How is DISKO different from Frame.io?

Frame.io is cloud review and collaboration: footage is uploaded to Frame.io, where your team and clients comment on it. DISKO is the library before that. It stays on your drives, watches, transcribes and finds people in every clip on your machine, and hands your editor an organized project. When it is time for review, DISKO Cloud gets only the cuts you choose to send, and reviewers never pay.

How is DISKO different from iconik?

iconik is a cloud media asset manager for teams: many people in one library from a browser or from panels in Premiere Pro and Resolve, with permissions, storage on site or in the cloud, and pricing per user per month. DISKO is a desktop app: a library can sit on a network drive for the whole team with one editor at a time, its AI runs on your own machine, and it costs one price, once. A big team sharing one library from everywhere is iconik’s home turf; a filmmaker or small team with drives on the desk is DISKO’s.

How is DISKO different from ShareBrowser?

ShareBrowser is the media asset manager built into Studio Network Solutions’ EVO shared storage: it runs on the EVO, indexes your storage and serves unlimited users on your network, with panels for Premiere Pro, Resolve, Final Cut Pro and Avid. DISKO needs no server. It runs on your own computer, reads any drive, and adds transcripts with speaker labels, moment-by-moment descriptions and faces. If your team already edits off an EVO, ShareBrowser comes with it.

How is DISKO different from Lightroom?

Lightroom is built for photographers: it develops and catalogs stills and handles video at a basic level. DISKO is built for video first, with interview transcripts, speaker labels, multi-cam sync and timelines for Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve, and it keeps your photos beside your clips. Photographers who shoot video often use both. There is a side-by-side table at disko.media/compare.

What do I need to run it?

An Apple Silicon Mac (M1 or later), where the AI runs on the Neural Engine, or a 64-bit PC with Windows 10 or 11 (the Windows version is a beta; a graphics card makes its AI descriptions much faster). Nothing else to install — no Python, no FFmpeg, no plug-ins (one AI model is a free, one-time download inside the app) — and the desktop app never requires the cloud. Thumbnails, proxies and other working files can live on an external drive if your internal one is tight.

Will DISKO slow my machine down?

It does its heavy lifting in the background, and takes on less at once on machines with 16 GB of memory or less. The Pause button in Background Tasks stops tagging, descriptions, faces and transcription in one click, while imports you started keep going, and the same panel shows how much processor, memory and graphics DISKO is using right now.

Roll tape.

Your footage. Your machine. Your rules.

A week on the house.
